How do I fix our Omega CW 1252 washing machine?

The Omega Washing Machine (front loader) spins fine - but only s..l..o..w..l..y, even on the fast cycle, leaving clothes rather soppy. At the end of the drawn out unsuccessful spin there is a hint of a burning (metalish & electricish) smell coming from the back of the machine. All other functions are working well. HELP!
