Frost-free freezer leaking water!?

Kenmore Model # 253.9284212

We have turned off this frost-free upright freezer for cleaning. Yes, we put towels in the bottom to catch the 'frost' it has collected. After about a half hour, the towels are still dry (!), there is no moisture inside the freezer, and water is leaking from underneath (on both sides ... appears to be coming from the front).

Since we have wood floors, this is gonna cause a big problem. Where is that water coming from and how much is there?!?

Pete,
With respect if the drain was blocked their towels would be wet.

The cabinet has produced too much ice for the tray to collect and cope with (at the back is a heated tray to evaporate the water when it defrosts 'normally').

In normal operation, the cabinet defrosts itself several times in 24 hours, producing small amounts of water each time. Yours is either not defrosting automatically, or there is a reason why the system is unable to cope.

The most likely cause of the problem, is a failed defrost timer, or a failed evaporator circulating fan, ar a failed defrost heater. These are in order of likelihood.

However, is it possible that the cabinet is producing too much ice for another reason ? It is a domestic fridge, Are you using it commercially? Are you opening the door far more times than might be considered 'normal'? Is it in the same room as, or next to a continuous heat source, Is the door seal effective? Do you have a small child who loves opening the door?

the frost in a frost free freezer is melted by the appliance twice a day and has a drain to facilitate this the water then sits near the compressor and evaporates awaythis is where the water is coming from once you start the freezer again it should cure the problem
